Guilding Coffee Filters

Gulding – the art for covering with gold leaf….what do guilding and coffee filters have to do with each other.  Well, one could say a whole lot when it comes to card-making.  It was fun to watch everyone make their own coffee filter card and then see the different works of art that came from each set of hands.  It was such a busy night and our photographer (Borgie) captured some of the goings on.

DIRECTIONS AND SUPPLIES:

Take a natural color coffee filter and randomly stamp the image of choice  with early espresso ink. Acorns  from Count My Blessings stamp, and the holly from Father Christmas worked well.   Then crumpled the filter into a ball and do not smooth out the edges.  The lines and creases give a faux silk look.  Adhere the edges to the back side of a layer of white cardstock approximately 3 1/4 x 5″  The guilding part of the technique is achieved by using the same stamp image randomly over some of the images with VersaMark.  Sprinkle with gold embossing powder and use the heat tool to bring up the guilding….less is better.

Finish this layer by sponging the edges with early espresso to give it a vintage look.  mount on a piece of crumb cake 5 1/4 x 4 and on the card base of early espresso.   Add a sentiment and trim with copper ribbon stretched in unique shapes.

All supplies except the coffee filters are available on my online store.     While you are there sign up for the next buffet on December 11th.
